In response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's proposed update of the Public Utility Regulatory Policy Act, Global Energy Institute Vice President and Policy Counsel, Heath Knakmuhs, issued the following statement:
“Reforming the Public Utilities Regulatory Policy Act (PURPA) will save consumers money and provide for the cost effective and fair integration of renewable energy resources into our grid. We applaud the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s action today to propose an overdue modernization of these regulations, which over the years have been used to require utilities to purchase more power than they actually need at above market costs. We look forward to these important reforms advancing.”
