U.S. Chamber Praises Continued Progress Toward Lifting Oil Export Ban

Press Release
September 17, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, today issued the following statement regarding the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s bipartisan approval of H.R. 702, a bill to lift 40-year-old ban on crude oil exports:

“The business community applauds the House Energy and Commerce Committee for advancing legislation to lift the outdated ban on crude oil exports. Lifting the ban will boost our economy, create jobs, and strengthen our national security. Under the president’s agreement with Iran, even Iran will now be able to sell oil abroad. Denying the U.S. the right to export our own oil is not only unfair but unwise and risky. We look forward to consideration by the full House and Senate.”

The Energy Institute launched a major advertising campaign last week directed at key U.S. Senators to build support for lifting the ban on oil exports. To listen to and see the ads, please click here.
