WASHINGTON, D.C. — Marty Durbin, President of the U.S. Chamber’s Global Energy Institute (GEI), said the new American Energy Innovation Act introduced today by U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee leaders Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Joe Manchin (WV) will fuel American innovation to help solve the climate challenge.

“The Senate has an opportunity to pass the most significant climate and energy legislation in well over a decade. Solutions to climate change will require new technology, and America has the opportunity to develop, demonstrate, and deploy the technologies that will stimulate progress around the globe. We thank Senators Murkowski and Manchin for their leadership, and we urge the Senate to seize this opportunity to fuel American innovation and promote climate action by passing this legislation without delay.”

The Global Energy Institute’s EnergyInnovates initiative highlights the people and technology that are shaping America’s energy future, from battery storage to small modular nuclear reactors. Last summer, GEI hosted the EnergyInnovates: All In summit, which helped build momentum for legislative action. In January, Chamber CEO Tom Donohue identified energy innovation legislation as a top priority for the Chamber in 2020 in his State of American Business speech, and the Chamber has been working with stakeholders.
